America has fallen on hard times in a dystopian near-future. Ray Garraty, 16, is set to participate in the Long Walk, an annual endurance and intelligence test. Every day and night, one hundred lads are required to maintain a constant four miles per hour without ever stopping. The winner receives “The Prize,” which is everything he desires for the remainder of his days. However, the stakes are extremely high and the Long Walk’s rules are strict. The last man standing wins; there is no finish line. No outside assistance of any kind is permitted for contestants. You will receive a warning if you continue to drive below the speed limit. You will be permanently removed from the game after three warnings.
