Heating appliances that use liquid fuel—typically No. 2 heating oil—as well as lighter fuels like kerosene and diesel fuel and heavier fuels like No. 4 fuel oil must be designed and installed safely and efficiently in accordance with NFPA 31. The installation of these systems in commercial, industrial, and residential spaces is subject to NFPA 31.
